  18. I'd guess it didn't recogni[zs]e dialtone.  Tell it to pause and then
  19. dial blind without waiting for dialtone.  Check the manual to see
  20. what the sequence is for that - there is a fair amount of standardisation
  21. but RTFM is always best.
